Market Context and Technical Read
Good morning everyone, checking in from Frankfurt. The US500 has been quite interesting lately, currently trading around 6039.06, showing a marginal 24-hour change of -0.18%. We're clearly in a sideways trend, which means we need to be particularly precise with our entries and exits. Looking at the daily range, we've seen prices fluctuate between 6022.64 and 6055.47. This 6055.47 level is a significant immediate resistance point that price has been struggling to decisively break above.
My technical analysis suggests that while we are in a sideways pattern, the upward momentum appears to be fading as we approach this key resistance. We're seeing price action indicating a potential rejection around these higher levels within the range. This could present an opportunity for a short-term reversal, especially for a swing trade.
The Setup: Shorting at Key Resistance
Based on this, I'm looking at a potential short setup on the US500. My entry target is 6044, which is just below that 6055.47 resistance, aiming to catch a move lower if the rejection holds. "Key level being tested" is certainly the phrase that comes to mind here. The Stop Loss for this trade would be placed at 6070. This level is strategically positioned just above the next psychological resistance level of 6055.47, giving the trade some room to breathe while protecting against an unexpected break higher.
On the fundamental side, despite some recent positive sentiment, underlying inflation concerns and the prospect of central banks maintaining a hawkish stance could continue to weigh on equity markets, especially if earnings reports start showing some cracks. This adds a cautious undertone to the broader market, which aligns with taking a short position if technical resistance holds.
